IN THE MIRROR OF REMBRANDT

12 December 2023 – 15 February 2024

"In the Mirror of Rembrandt" is an interdisciplinary project initiated by the Center "Bulgarian-European Cultural Dialogues", UniArt Gallery of NBU and with the participation of My Museum Foundation. The exhibition presents high quality reproductions of Rembrandt's heliogravures, putting them in dialogue with contemporary culture and with the perceptions of students and lecturers from New Bulgarian University.

A rich program of exhibitions, lectures and a workshop is planned, with the participation of the curators from the Rijksmuseum (Amsterdam) - Dr. Eric Hinterding and Dr. Friezo Lammertse, who are visiting New Bulgarian University for the second time.

  • "In the Mirror of Rembrandt", exhibition of photogravures from the NBU collection
  • "Rembrandt Interpretations", student exhibition from the Department of Fine Arts (NBU). Supervisors: Assoc. Prof. Dr. Kalina Hristova and Dr. Vasil Angelov.

 

v 18 December 2023, UniArt Gallery, 17:00 - 19:00.

Opening of the exhibitions. Award ceremony for the students participating in the exhibition "Rembrandt Interpretations", Ambassador Simon van der Burg, (Embassy of the Kingdom of the Netherlands), Assoc. Prof. Dr. Kristiyan Postagiyan (Vice Rector, NBU).

Premiere of two poems about Rembrandt by Joseph Brodsky and Elizabeth Jennings, translated by Dr. Boriana Katzarska (poet and translator) and Prof. Alexander Shurbanov (SU).

Dramatization with students from the Department of Theatre (NBU). Supervisor: Assoc. Prof. Snezhina Petrova.

Musical images from the Rembrandt era. Prof. Yavor Konov, PhD (NBU).

"Rembrandt in the Digital Space" – Student research project from the Media and Communications Programme (NBU). Supervisor: Dr. Justine Toms.

  • 12:30 Opening. Welcome address from Ambassador Simon van der Burg (Embassy of the Kingdom of the Netherlands, Dr. Todor Petev (NBU), Dr. Stoyan Sgourev (BECD Centre).
  • 13:00–14:00  "Rembrandt as an innovative graphic artist - techniques, ideas, effects". Dr. Eric Hinterding (Rijksmuseum, Amsterdam). In English.

 Project presentation and publication launch to the exhibition "In the Mirror of Rembrandt", by the NBU publishers. Edited by Dr. Todor Petev.
