Genko Genkov (1923 – 2006)
1923, February 1 – Born in the village of Choba, Plovdiv in the family of Ivan and Hristina Genkovi.
1935 – Moves to live in Sofia and meets Prof. Ivan Lazarov.
1940 – Organizes his exhibition in Burgas in one of the salons of the “Alliance Frances”.
1943 – 1948 – Studied painting at the Academy of Arts in Sofia with Prof. Dechko Uzunov.
1950 – Works as a printer and typewriter.
1956 – Sent to a camp on Belene Island, after the political events in Hungary.
Since 1957 Actively participates in the artistic life in Bulgaria.
1966, January 12 – Organizes his first solo exhibition of watercolors on Ruski Blvd. №6.
1972 – Awarded the Order of Cyril and Methodius.
1973 – Organizes a second solo exhibition of landscapes in the gallery at 125 Rakovski Street.
1978 – Third solo exhibition in the hall at 125 Rakovski Street.
1978 – Receives the Vladimir Dimitrov – The Master Award of the Union of Bulgarian Artists.
1980 – Receives first prize at the International Triennial of Realistic Painting in Sofia.
1982 – Receives the title of Honored Artist on the occasion of May 24.
Since 1983, he has organized numerous solo exhibitions. He works mainly in the field of landscapes from the Sofia district of Krasna Polyana, often traveling outside Sofia, visiting the villages of Dragoman, Rudartsi, Dragoil, Gorna Banya, Bankya, etc.
2006, February 16 – March 19 – Last exhibition at the Sofia City Art Gallery.
2006, March 3 – The artist dies in Sofia at the age of 83.
