Portrait of Lyuba Gabrovska-Dyulgerova

Lyuba Gabrovska-Dyulgerova (1903-1996) was born in Plovdiv in the family of intellectuals. She studied in Vienna where she met her husband Nikolay Diulgheroff (1901-1982) – a Bulgarian artist, designer and architect and a prominent representative of Italian Futurism. The painter studied at a Kunstgewerbeschule from 1920 to 1921 and took part in exhibitions while he was a student in Vienna. They got married in Sofia in 1926 after Nikolay Diulgheroff graduated in architecture from Accademia Albertina di Torino. The couple settled in Turin where in the 1930s they were visited by Ivan Nenov – a close family friend. Sharing the same spiritual interests as her husband and his milieu, while being gifted with physical attractiveness, Lyuba Gabrovska-Dyulgerova happened to be a rewarding object of inspiration and a focus of the artist’s mind-provoking experiences in Italy.
